What is Tarot?

Tarot readings are over 500 years old with archetypal roots that date back to almost 2,000 years. Tarot practices have ultimately become vessels of ancient wisdom. Modern playing cards, interestingly enough, are derivatives of Tarot. Tarot’s historical symbolism is a mysterious concept. There are various Tarot symbols that are believed to have been first founded in India, China, or Egypt. Tarot cards are dated all the way back to 15th century Italy, Spain, and France. Tarot is a divination system where a set of cards seek to gain understanding and control over matters pertaining to opportunities, connections, and life’s transitions.

Can Tarot Predict the Future?

If the Tarot deck contains a large enough spread, it can help provide you with greater insight into the probabilities present in a situation. However, the specific outcome of the situation still lies in your hands and how you choose to adapt to the fluid conditions that your Tarot reading exhibits. Tarot readings allow you to imagine what is going on in the present as you choose the cards. The cards help guide you to see aspects of a situation that you wouldn’t have imagined seeing otherwise. Contrary to popular belief, Tarot can be considered a type of meditation that can also offer clarity and guidance. Although it is capable of presenting the likelihood of an event happening, it does NOT predict the future.

How Do Tarot Cards Work?

A Tarot deck contains 78 cards that each symbolize a spiritual truth or energy. However, the relevance of the card depends on its position in the spread. Tarot readers spend decades mastering all the Tarot card meanings and each card’s different combinations so they are prepared for every possible outcome. As Tarot uses Synchronicity, meaning that it interprets what is perceived as two separate events as intertwined, it employs both the subconscious and superconscious mind. Expert Tarot readers have a classical understanding of the power of the archetypes portrayed in the images on the cards, thus it is more than just practicing distinctive psychic abilities.

Should You Fear Tarot?

Many people find Tarot insights fascinating, but there are others who find the process to be unnerving. People are often scared of the results and fear that they won’t be able to alter what they hear. This is a common misconception of Tarot since you always have the ability to impact the outcomes despite having the cards interpreted a certain way.

Major Arcana And Minor Arcana Differences

The traditional 78 Tarot cards in the Tarot deck are divided into 22 Major Arcana cards, also known as trump cards, and 56 Minor Arcana cards. Major Arcana cards hold greater importance due to their significant large-scale representation of life events and more heavily portrayed messages compared to the Minor Arcana cards. Newcomers to Tarot should start by understanding Major Arcana first, and then move on to Minor Arcana. Minor Arcana cards describe the ups and downs of daily life.

The Four Tarot Card Suits

Minor Arcana consists of four suits: Wands, Cups, Swords, and Pentacles. Each suit symbolizes an overall theme-- Wands designate action, Cups embody emotions, Swords represent challenges, and Pentacles control the physical world. Every suit is made up of 14 cards, starting with Ace, continuing through numbers two through 10, and finishing with the four cards: Page, Knight, Queen, and King.

What Kinds Of Questions Is Tarot Well-Suited For?

Tarot is great when it comes to seeking clarification on matters or challenges. Topics such as relationships, spiritual guidance, family matters, or regarding decisions or questions that logic typically cannot answer, are the types of topics that are well-suited for Tarot readings.

How Do You Pick A Tarot Deck?

Choosing a Tarot deck is solely based on one’s personal preference. The best way to find out which one you favor most is to look through multiple decks and familiarize yourself with all the different types. You may even find it fun to see what each card looks like in the other decks and compare! Although going through the many Tarot decks would be extremely beneficial, in reality, it might be time-consuming. However, our site allows you to get a head start and familiarize yourself with all the cards easily.

How Do You Pick A Tarot Spread?

Tarot experts are continuously creating more spreads and already have hundreds of them for you to choose from. A spread is the configuration of the cards, where various meanings are assigned to each position. Each spread is a beneficial and powerful creation and is ultimately considered an art. When deciding on what Tarot spread to choose it is important to ask yourself what you are looking for within the cards. Three Tarot spreads and ten Tarot spreads are just a few examples of the many you can choose from.

Now that you have some more knowledge and some of your questions answered, it is time to start exploring the world of Tarot. Here is your chance to discover a whole new way to look at your life through the cards.
