Page of Cups

Upright Meaning

When the Page of Cups appears for us in a reading, he suggests that this could be a great time to allow free rein to our creative abilities and impulses. He is a reminder that anything is possible and that a sense of curiosity and optimism can bring forth the most wonderfully unexpected things. The Page invites us to give voice to our inner child, and incorporate her into our lives and endeavors.

This card can often appear when we may be best served by heeding our intuition; we could find that we are more sensitive to the world and others around us at this time and that our hunches are unfailingly correct.

The Page of Cups may also indicate a message is imminent and will relate to the heart, relationships, or emotions. Perhaps you will receive a communication from a new love interest, or receive a phone call from a friend to tell you she’s just gotten engaged!

Reversed Meaning

Whereas the upright Page calmly and peacefully contemplates his Cup (and its fish), the reversed Page speaks of a more chaotic, less grounded stance. The reversed card may appear when we are in danger of going for immediate gratification rather than what our intuition, and higher selves, advise is best for us. He can mean commitments we know we can’t deliver on and promises lightly made.

This card can also suggest a sense of being creatively blocked, or of a lack of confidence in our idea. We may be struggling to make a start, or with knowing how to progress. The reversed Page asks us to try to let the pressure fall away, to enjoy the creative process and assures us that we will find our way.

The element of the Cups suit is Water, which is linked to emotions and creativity. The sea that is behind the Page is also present in the Cup he holds, which is why a fish emerges from it. This suggests that we all have the potential to carry the creative gift with us and can bring forth unexpected wonders from it.
